Schelten Pass from Ramiswil

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

You have to earn the view and the departure from Scheltenpass! From Mervelier, the road rises 13km to the pass steadily with z.T. steep ramps. In the first part to Schelten one is often still in the shadow of the forest and it accompanies a rippling of the racheting in the gorge. The upper part is then relentless in the sun and if then tropical temperatures of 34'C to come as in my tour, you are dried up like a pomme chips. But then you will be rewarded with a fast descent to Balsthal. Attention, there are always sections with rockfall, i. Stones on the road, and road sections with coarse holes in the pavement.

Balmberg Pass Summit

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Balmberg is particularly notorious for its extremely steep approach from Welschenrohr. There, the asphalt climb climbs approximately 400 meters with gradients of up to 25%. From Günsberg, it's considerably easier – in comparison – but still a real fitness test!

Schelten Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Scheltenpass, one of my favorite passes. On the Jurassic side, along the Scheltebach, it is particularly romantic. Unfortunately, there is a motorcycle race here on Sundays and public holidays as well.

Difficult ascent on a well-paved, narrow road; hardly any motor vehicle / motorcycle traffic: an IDEAL VELOPASS!

Weissenslein Passhöhe Forest Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Somewhat hidden and slightly above the Hammerweg, a partly narrow, then wider and sometimes not always immediately recognizable path runs more or less parallel to it, over a forest ridge. Here you move a little off the excursion paths that cover the tourist hotspot Weissenstein. Although the view under the dense foliage of the trees and bushes on fields and meadows is limited, it is nice and cool here in summer and you can enjoy not being constantly babbled by the chatter of excursion tourists.
(In general, however, the following applies to the Weissenstein; "You are rarely if ever alone")

Beautiful on both sides! From Mervelier, you first have to conquer a few short, steep ramps, then the road flattens out and you go directly along the stream through the narrow valley. From the Scheltenmühle onwards, it climbs steeply again; there are 300 meters of altitude gain from there to the pass crossing. At the very top, a short detour to the Vorder Erzberg mountain inn is worthwhile. There you can refuel and enjoy a fantastic view towards Passwang.
