July 29, 2025, Paddle Steamer Shipwreck at Newport Harbour

It's not really a shipwreck as such, but it is the remains of the abandoned Paddle Steamer Ryde. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS_Ryde

Carisbrooke is a great place to visit, well worth the money to get in. The castle is well looked after.

Across the Old Mill Pond you get a great view of the PS Ryde. Now little more than a rusting hulk, in her heyday she was a paddle steamer acting as a passenger ferry between the Isle of Wight and the mainland. The PS Ryde fulfilled this role between the mid 1930s and the late 1960s, with a break during the Second World War where she saw active service as a mine sweeper and an anti-aircraft ship.

Through woodland and over boardwalks, this path traces the River Medina as it flows out of Newport and towards the sea at Cowes.
