How the local hunter managed to get hold of a motorway sign to use as a roof for his (currently grounded) hunting stand is beyond my knowledge. But the hiker is amazed to suddenly find a motorway sign next to the forest path and then discovers the strange construction on site.

Perhaps this section of forest, marked as a highlight, will awaken a desire for a little information. In the ARD media library, there is a quarter-hour contribution for the nature-interested hiker called LEBENSRAUM WALD (FOREST HABITAT). The website states: “The forest is more than just the sum of its trees. Plants, fungi, and animals form a complex ecosystem. Forest air is considered fresh and rich in oxygen... Real footage and graphic animations illustrate the material cycles in the forest...” The film can be accessed via the following link =>> https://www.ardmediathek.de/video/schulfernsehen/lebensgemeinschaft-wald/ard-alpha/Y3JpZDovL2JyLmRlL2Jyb2FkY2FzdC9GMjAxN1dPMDI3MTQ1QTA

Perhaps one or the other who wanders through the Bannwald south of Seißen will not only enjoy nature – which is fortunately still present here – but also think about the current headlines about devastating forest fires in many other parts of Europe. A film documentary in the ARD media library illuminates the background and asks the question: What comes after the forest fire? If interested, see =>> https://www.ardmediathek.de/video/auf-spurensuche-oder-ard-wissen/was-kommt-nach-dem-waldbrand/mdr/Y3JpZDovL21kci5kZS9iZWl0cmFnL2Ntcy8yNTU5M2JlZC03MzIwLTRmZmEtYjYzMy1hNmNmMjg5OTJkNzU

Perhaps the words of Hans Thoma (1839 to 1924), who described the eyes as the 'gateway to the soul' in these lines, will be welcome to the hiker on this Ice Age Trail (a network of 20 hiking trails in the Ach and Lone valleys of the Swabian Jura): “The natural world will reveal its beauty to everyone who has a receptive soul... It is not at all necessary to wander far and search in doubt as to where it might be most beautiful. Just don't forget your eyes, just open these gateways to the soul wide, then beauty will gladly enter, for it is at home everywhere and looks for souls that recognize it.”
