The Black Heart, an idyllic lake on the island of Usedom, is a somewhat hidden gem in the Korswandt forest. Surrounded by trees that make the water appear dark, this place is a wonderful retreat. Time seems to stand still here. Highly recommended.

“The water was so clear (maybe because the clay-type mud had settled really well), and it must be such a nice place for a swim. Unfortunately, I went in winter, so I didn’t—but the crazy thing was, I actually saw a guy swimming! I’d have drowned from hypothermia.” 😅❄️

The water is calm compared to the Baltic Sea, and we gaze at the lake. While it's surrounded by trees, the first of them are already showing their autumn colors. We sit down for a short break on the lakeside terrace. A lovely moment. We continue on, back along the main path, catching glimpses of the lake through the trees. At a bathing area, there's a nice place to sit, and the sunlight sparkles on the water like fireworks. A little further on, a multitude of swans greet us. https://youtu.be/EoS5sxZcnGA

Let's continue along the edge of town, now following the cycle path and leaving Ahlbeck. The forest is now dark around us, the ground covered with leaves, and the path leads us uphill. It's lovely walking through the mixed forest; we enjoy the autumnal atmosphere. At one point, the Trees of the Year were planted starting in 1989; some haven't survived. Onward we go through the forest, the trees towering all around us. We reach Korswandt and approach Lake Wolgast. https://youtu.be/EoS5sxZcnGA
