Ihlienworth stepped pumping station The Ihlienworth step pumping station, like the Otterndorf estuary pumping station, was also built in 1928/29 and is located approx. 17 kilometers away. There are vertical shaft underwater pumps in the pumping station and are still there today. The performance of 2 x 8.00 m³/s is achieved with a delivery head of 1.35 m or 2 x 10 m³/s with a delivery head of 1.00 m. After pump 1 of the pumping station in Ihlienworth was completely overhauled in 2007, pump 2 was completely overhauled in 2008 and has been fully operational again since the winter of 2008/09. Task of the creative works The difficulty in draining water in the lowlands - for example in the coastal area - is natural. The terrain lies up to 2m below the mean tidal high water. The distance to the main receiving water (here e.g. the Elbe) is long and the gradients are small. Pumping stations have therefore been built for these lowland areas, which pump the water into the main or receiving waters of the next elevation. A water and soil association distinguishes between different types of pumping stations, depending on the task it has to fulfill. Source: HP from the municipality of Ihlienworth

The slightly overhanging, massive, square west tower of the St. Wilhadi Church, together with the slender tower of St. Cosmae, has shaped the skyline of Stade for centuries and is popularly known as the "leaning tower of Stade". Our church St. Wilhadi had a Romanesque predecessor from the 11th century, which was probably built as the first archbishop's church when Stade became the spiritual fief of the Bremen archbishops in 1063. The name also makes the reference to Bremen clear, because Saint Willehad was the first bishop and founder of the Bremen diocese. Remnants of the foundations of this first Wilhadi church were found in 1986 when a new heating system was being built. The current three-aisled Gothic hall church dates from the 14th century. The oldest part of St. Wilhadi Church, however, is probably the west tower, which stylistically points to the late 13th century when it was built. In Ihlienworth there had been a path from the western entrance to the village on the Medem for centuries, which led to the dike path. In 1899 a wooden walkway with a stairway over the Medem was created not far from it. This Medemsteg, popularly known as “Kattenstigg”, was supposed to enable the residents of Wester-Ihlienworth to go shopping at the “Colonialwaaren-Handlung-Meyer” in Oster-Ihlienworth without having to make a detour. The Medempfad was then extended from Deichweg to Medemsteg. After the department store was closed in 1914, the path and footbridge were still used for livestock farming east of the Medem. It was and is also popular with walkers. In 2002 the old footbridge was replaced by a barrier-free new building in the same place.
