Birlinghoven Castle is a historic, castle-like villa in Sankt Augustin (North Rhine-Westphalia). It was built between 1901 and 1903. Today, it is not a publicly accessible museum, but rather serves as a renowned research location: several institutes of the Fraunhofer Society are located on the surrounding campus. Good to know for your visit: • Research Campus: As the castle is located on an active research site of the Fraunhofer Institutes, the grounds themselves are fenced and generally not freely accessible to the public on a daily basis. • Architecture & Park: The architecture combines elements of the English country house style with Baroque. The building is surrounded by a spacious English landscape garden. • Exterior view & walks: A beautiful view of the castle can be enjoyed from the adjacent Birlinghovener Wald nature reserve. If you go for a walk nearby, you can admire the stately building at least from a distance. • Special occasions: Occasionally, the campus opens its doors to the public for special events such as Open Monument Day or scientific events.

Unfortunately, the upper part of the clock had to be removed due to vandalism. If you look around, the upper part of the clock can be discovered behind the fence. This time protected by free-roaming dogs. Shame that this is necessary :-((

Today a new paint job in highly visible WHITE.. A bike tour here is not without climbing uphill with sandy ground but no exceptional gradient. Just strenuous ;-))

A cute little chapel with a tree growing in the middle. Unfortunately, it's on a dirt road and therefore inaccessible. 😃
