Several myths and legends surround this chapel. One dates back to the 17th century. It is said that a child once got lost in the forest and fell asleep, exhausted, beneath a fir tree. The infant Jesus appeared to him in a dream and showed him the way home. Since then, the fir tree has become a destination for many concerned parents, who hung crosses, votive tablets, and children's clothing there. In 1881, the first small wooden church was built on the square. The fir tree still stood as a stump in front of this chapel. But after two decades, the wood of the structure had become so rotten that it had to be removed and the chapel rebuilt. The new construction was the result of a vow by an "Oberdorf" mother, who also persuaded other families to join the community.
