High above the old town sits Altensteig Castle, whose impressive residential tower is considered the only castle in the Black Forest never destroyed to this day. The "Old Castle" in its present basic form was built as a defensive structure from around 1230. The flank towers "Himmel" (Heaven) and "Hölle" (Hell) and the late Romanesque shield wall bear witness to this. The bailiffs of the Counts Palatine of Tübingen and a collateral line of the Hohenbergs resided here. After the sale of the castle and dominion to the Margraves of Baden at the end of the 14th century, the ensemble became the seat of the Baden bailiffs, who inscribed their names on a window arch in the knights' hall. In 1604, Altensteig came to Württemberg from Baden through an exchange of territory. And the new rulers commissioned the "New Castle" around 1610.

The Kohlsägmühle is already more than 400 years old. It was first mentioned in writing in 1614, located in the Zinsbachtal valley and named after the small stream Kohlbächlein. This date is mentioned in both the Altensteiger Forstlagerbuch and the Dorfbuch of Garrweiler, in whose district the mill stands. From the beginning, it was owned by several forest farmers. Today it belongs to more than 40 co-owners from Garrweiler, Spielberg and Überberg, Grömbach, Wörnersberg and Edelweiler - it is the only mill in the district with such an ownership structure.

The anti-aircraft position belonged to the Western Air Defence Zone and was built in 1939. It consisted of four standing areas for heavy anti-aircraft guns, four blockhouses for accommodating the operating personnel and command posts 1 and 2. All structures of the anti-aircraft position on the Egenhäuser Kapf have been listed as historical monuments since 2005. Today, access to the underground rooms is closed off by two steel doors. Through the small windows you can only see two empty rooms.
