On August 27, 2002, the eve of Johann Wolfgang Goethe's 251st birthday, the Goethe Garden House 2 was opened overlooking the Toskana Therme spa in Bad Sulza. The Goethe Garden House 2 is an exact replica of the original garden house in Weimar. It was built in 1999 (Weimar's City of Culture Year) in the Park an der Ilm to preserve the original. In 2002, after the Japanese no longer wanted it, it was moved to Bad Sulza and installed below the Toskana Therme. It is used for various exhibitions and readings. The space can also be rented for events, and weddings are also held in the building.
