The Rossel ruin in the Niederwald landscape park near Rüdesheim is an artificially constructed castle ruin. Count Johann Friedrich von Ostein began developing the Niederwald as a hunting ground in 1764; thirty years later, he had artificial antiquities such as the ruin built there. In the spirit of late Baroque garden culture, these elaborate structures served for entertainment and landscape design. The Rossel castle ruin stands on an almost vertically sloping rocky spur. From there, a spectacular view opens up of the Binger Loch, the Mäuseturm, and the Ehrenfels ruin. The imaginative work consists of a slightly elevated round tower and a rectangular building. The Rheinsteig trail leads directly past the ruin.

This resting place and viewpoint offers a magnificent panoramic view from the Germania behind you, over the towers of St. Hildegard Abbey to the world-famous Johannisberg Castle, and across the Rhine far into the Rhenish Hesse hill country.

At each monastery station there is a stamp, so that at the end there are six stamp impressions for the six "hiked" monasteries in the pilgrim's booklet. At the end of the path in the Marien Kirche you can get the Eberbacher Kreuz or not. Unfortunately, no one was to be found in the church, so we did not get any Eberbacher Kreuze. Very disappointing for those who walked the pilgrim path.

From the Rothenberg you have a great view over the landscape. Take some time to enjoy it – the place was rightly chosen as the most beautiful wine view.

How the Theoretikerhütte got its name: A hiking group from Spay regularly stopped by their favorite innkeeper named Theo. From this came the idea of building a THEOretiker-Hütte (theoreticians' hut). 🎨🖌It doesn't get much more romantic than this on the Rhine: Welcome to Assmannshausen, a picturesque little town on the Rhine🎨🖌. Here, the Rhine Valley shows its best side- a picturesque part of the cultural landscape UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley🎨🖌. Assmannshausen is a small, picturesquely situated town on the Rhine, in the northwesternmost corner of Hesse📍. The 🍇wine-growing community has the largest contiguous Pinot Noir area in Germany with 75 hectares of vineyards🇩🇪. The 🍷red wine tradition in Assmannshausen dates back to the founding of the community in 1108. Assmannshausen red wine is famous above all because the vines grow on sun-drenched steep slopes directly above the Rhine, whose slate-rich soil ensures a particularly racy wine. Cozy wine taverns, sophisticated restaurants and romantic leafy terraces entice you to rave about the Assmannshausen Pinot Noir🍷 - one of the best German red wines🍷 - 🥰.
