Sand is deposited here during every flood. At other points on the bank, it is gravel. This creates a real sand dune, which the path already has to bypass.

The cooling water outlet can be recognized from afar by the iron grate – and by the "wild boar". The land art artist has skillfully shaped the tree stump so that everyone immediately recognizes the racing sow. It has also been placed so cleverly that it has survived various floods. Particularly humorous about it: On the beach behind it, things traditionally get "swinish". There, young and old locals indulge in nudism (FKK).

The Lindenallee in the Stammheim Castle Park is one of the most famous historic avenues in Cologne-Stammheim. It was laid out in the early 1830s as part of the English landscape park designed by the famous garden director Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe.

No, not a sandbank. It's mainly gravel here. While you can find shade under the willow bushes for your head and warmth for your senses... But there's no sandy beach here. The photos with sand are NOT from here. The real sandy riviera starts a few hundred meters further up and runs to the pier head. On the map, the sandy bays are yellow. However, from there it's a longer walk to the popular little wood... Maybe one first, then the other?

The sheep are not only here, but everywhere from the pier head to the jetty at the "Schwimmbad" beer garden. The pasture fence simply moves a little further every day. I wasn't paying attention: Do they start at the top again afterwards? Or do they continue to the Poller Wiesen?

The outflowing cooling water is warmer than the Rhine, so it's good for fishing, but there are stones, gravel, and sharp shells everywhere, so there's no place for sunbathing. However, just 1 km north at the Niehler Riviera, there is plenty of sand and beach life.

"The port was begun in the early 1920s on the initiative of Mayor Konrad Adenauer. As early as 1900, the port administration presented a cost plan for the new port in Niehl, but it wasn't until 1912 that a final decision was made on the planning. Despite initial reservations about the high costs, the benefits in the form of jobs and tax revenues overcame the decision." (Author: Dr. Ulrich S. Soénius, historian and director of the Rhineland-Westphalian Economic Archives Foundation in Cologne.)

After the remains of Stammheim Castle, which had been completely destroyed in a bombing raid in 1944, were demolished, Bayer AG built a retirement home here, which opened in 1955. Unfortunately, the building, in a prominent location on the Rhine and the castle grounds, has stood empty for many years, awaiting revitalization.
