Circa late 19th – early 20th century Location: Formal garden – Renesse Estate, Oostmalle This graceful fountain is part of the landscaped garden design around Renesse Castle. Although the water no longer flows today, the object still reflects the grandeur of earlier times. At the end of the 19th century, the estate was redesigned in English landscape style, supplemented with formal elements such as symmetrical paths, ponds, and resting points such as this fountain. Such objects served not only as decoration, but also as markers within the walking route of the nobility or wealthy bourgeoisie. They offered opportunities for contemplation, relaxation and conversation. The heavy natural stone construction, with baroque ornamentation and floral details, fits within the eclectic style preference of the time: a mixture of classic and romantic, intended to evoke an atmosphere of timelessness. Today, the fountain still invites you to relax – a silent witness to the rich past of Domein Renesse.

In Verroeste Groei the industrial past collides with the untamable power of nature. The steel, heavy and worn by time, forms a sculptural remnant of human feasibility. But where the metal ends, the ivy begins. Nature winds through it – not as an intruder, but as an heir. This sculpture invites reflection: what do we leave behind? What remains standing? And who will ultimately take back the space?

In the park de Renesse there is an ice cellar, built in 1835.[5] It was used to store ice throughout the year. In the past, residents of Oostmalle were also allowed to come and get ice if they could show a doctor's note. The ice cellar is now a habitat for bats and is managed by Natuurpunt Voorkempen. The cellar has been protected as a monument since 2003.[6] Source: Wikipedia
