When, at the end of the 18th century, old wooden bridges in the Duchy of Holstein were replaced by stone structures, the bridge over the Reinbeker Mühlgraben was also rebuilt. In 1793, the bridge was built according to plans by state master builder Johann Adam Richter from granite blocks, with two rows of superimposed ashlar forming the parapet. In 1900, the old connecting path to Wentorf was relocated to the current road layout. The "Dänenbrücke", named so because the Duchy of Holstein was under the rule of the Danish king at the time of its construction, has since only served as a pedestrian and bicycle bridge.

The Wohltorfer Kirchenstieg originated around 1312, when Wentorf, Wohltorf, Börnsen and Escheburg became monastery villages of the Reinbek Monastery, but the original connection of the places to the church in Bergedorf remained. The faithful used the path to get to their church. However, the bridge still visible today probably does not date from that time, but very likely from the redesign of the park at the manor house of Georges Fester by Rudolph Jürgens in 1914. Jürgens laid out new paths on the property, including some that led down to the Bille and inevitably crossed the old Kirchenstieg.

It's hardly a bridge anymore; the remains are dwindling... mostly you're just walking through mud.

The narrow hiking trail leads mostly directly above the Bille river through a beautiful forest... There are frequent magnificent views of the idyllic Bille flowing by.

Contrary to the name, you won't find any (wild) animals here anymore. This is especially important for managing expectations with children.

These two trees are intertwined in an unusual way. Since they are two different tree species, this is quite special.
