We used to call this "the Green Road" though I'm not sure its a 'real' green road .It's been around a long time and before the ByPass was built it connected with a sunken lane further South. My Mum's favourite dog walk , a lovely walk and peaceful.

English Heritage site No cafe, or undercover seating area. Hot drinks available but not good if it's raining!

It's quite amazing how peaceful this stretch is, given its proximity to Malton, but the track and path here is very peaceful, very green and very lovely. Nice and grassy for much on the way, with pleasant views of the surrounding fields (better in the summer when the vegetation is green).

Lovely spot to ford or cross by tree-trunk bridge. Just not when the river is in spate after heavy rain! When fording in spate, the river will be up to your crotch and the current is strong. The tree trunk bridge will have its first few 'rungs' in the water, so you may want to do it barefoot.

There has been a castle here on the hill top at Pickering since the Norman times as a motte and bailey castle. Over time it has been developed and the ruins you now see were used for royal holidays and hunting trips. The castle is open to the public and is run by English Heritage. See their website for further details https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/pickering-castle/
