Wojanów Palace

Highlight • Castle

Schildau Castle was first mentioned in 1281 as a knight's fief, and over the centuries it has been repeatedly expanded and rebuilt. Like many others, this castle was nationalized after 1945 and used for many years as an administrative building for a farm and as a holiday home. It fell into disrepair in the 1990s and finally burned down in 2002. A limited liability company has owned the castle since 2004, renovated it, and converted it into a hotel, restaurant, and conference center.

Bolczów Castle Ruins

Ruin of a hilltop castle on two granite rock elevations, which were connected by a surrounding wall. In the multi-sided inner courtyard you can still see the keep and the walls of a rectangular residential tower. The facility is freely accessible and a short tour is highly recommended.

Lomnica Palace

Highlight • Castle

There was already a moated castle on the site of Łomnica Castle in the Middle Ages. In the 1720s it was converted into a baroque castle and in the following centuries it was further converted and expanded under various owners. After 1945 the castle was expropriated, nationalized and used as a school until 1972. After that it fell into ruin.

The grandson of the last owner bought it back together with a Polish partner in the early 1990s. This was followed by the widow's house and part of the park. The castle is now used for cultural events and educational purposes and the widow's house houses a hotel and restaurant.

On the other side of the street are the old domain buildings. Here you will also find a very nice restaurant as well as some shops selling linen or local specialties.

Castle ruins in Zmigrod

Highlight • Castle

The ruins of a palace that some call the pearl of Silesian Baroque. The Hatzfeldt family built it in 1655. A hundred years later it was rebuilt in a beautiful Baroque style. Also history: it was here in 1813 that the Żmigród Protocol was signed, i.e. the plan for the final defeat of Napoleon.

Unfortunately, the Red Army set everything on fire in 1945 and the palace fell into ruin for many years.

Fischbach Castle

Highlight • Castle

(Zamek Karpniki) - a moated castle (of course also a hotel). Fischbach Castle was one of the three summer residences of the royal House of Hohenzollern, which discovered the Hirschberger Valley as a summer resort in the 19th century. Unfortunately, you can only view the castle from the outside.

Czocha Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle was privately owned in the first half of the 20th century, in 1945 it fell to the Polish state and is now a hotel and apparently also used for weddings, as we saw today.
Adultery seems to have been a serious topic at the castle. At least one woman (Ulrike) was drowned for adultery in the castle well and a trap for adulterers is installed in a bed. There are also plenty of secret passages that you can do on the tour.
The entrance costs just over five euros, tours are only in Polish, but to start the tours you get German info sheets

Schaffgotsch Palace

Highlight • Castle

A castle in Warmbrunn was first built in 1687 on the occasion of a bathing visit by Queen Maria Kasimira of Poland, the wife of Jan III. Sobieski, mentioned [2]. This building was built between 1550 and 1600 and probably resembled the Schwarzbach Castle (Czarne), which is still preserved today, built in 1559 [3]. In both cases, the builders were representatives of the Schaffgotsch family, which had ramified widely by the 16th century. Source: Wikipedia

A fantastic castle built on solid rock, a beautiful site in any season. It commands respect for those who built it in the 14th century (yes, over 600 years ago!)

The Żmigród Palace was built by the von Hatzfeld family in 1655 on the site of a former castle, and later redesigned around 1755 by Carl Gothard Langhans, the renowned Prussian architect who also designed Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. In 1813, the palace's White Hall hosted the signing of the Żmigród Protocol, a crucial agreement for Napoleon's final defeat, attended by Russian Tsar Alexander I, Prussian King Frederick William III, and British and Austrian envoys. The Red Army set fire to the palace in January 1945, destroying the beautiful southern wing completely, and the remaining ruins have stood abandoned ever since.

There are many walls left from the building itself, which together with the high rocks create a fairy-tale atmosphere. On the castle grounds you will also find stairs leading to the upper parts of the ruins. One of the places serves as a viewpoint, from which you can see the Sokoliki, characteristic of Rudawy.
