The first weekend of September sees the celebration of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament, better known as the Feast of Bom Jesus, one of the oldest and most popular pilgrimages in Madeira, a tradition dating back to the 16th century. In this spirit, the Pilgrim Square was built as a tribute to all those who travel to this parish to express their devotion. The fountains and laundresses recall the past when women went to the parish wells to wash their laundry. The wine press recalls the parish's winemaking tradition. The "Until the Baskets Are Washed, It's Harvest" event takes place in this square in October. Its main purpose is to commemorate and showcase the tools and hustle and bustle of the grape harvest. https://visitsaovicente.pt/visitas-e-experiencias/museus-e-monumentos

Narrow spot on the levada, but if necessary you can also walk in the levada.

Actually not a levada origin, but rather a waterfall that plunges into the stream to the valley.

A small stream bed that you have to cross, not particularly difficult.

The route back along the coast from São Christovao to Ponta Delgada should be approached with extreme caution. There have apparently been some severe landslides recently, and parts of the route are covered in debris and boulders. Therefore, you must keep a close eye on the rocks above you and proceed with caution. Avoid using the path in windy or rainy conditions.

A "slender piece of land that disappears into the sea": this is how Gaspar Frutuoso, a historian and priest from the 16th century, justifies the name "Ponta Delgada" in his work "Saudades da Terra". The origins of this municipality shaped by the sea date back to 1552. With an area of 8.8 km², Ponta Delgada is known for the fertility of its soil. This rough but carefully cultivated land is used to produce some of the island's typical delicacies. In addition, natural landscapes with shades of green predominate throughout the region and there is no shortage of attractions in Ponta Delgada. The church is quite unassuming from the outside, and does not lure in with pomp and splendor on the inside, but the ceiling frescoes are quite remarkable. The modern frescoes enchant with a variety of colorful paintings that are unconventional for a church.
