High Falls Gorge Potholes are a geologic highlight within the privately operated High Falls Gorge near Wilmington, New York, just outside the Adirondack High Peaks. Carved over thousands of years by the rushing Ausable River, these deep, cylindrical potholes were formed by swirling glacial meltwater and sediment. Today, you can view them safely from sturdy walkways and glass-floor platforms that follow the edge of the gorge. Interpretive signs explain the area's unique geology and the erosive power behind these formations. It’s a short, accessible outing perfect for those curious about the raw forces that shaped this dramatic stretch of river.

The trailhead here fills up fast so it is best to come early! That said, the lot is fairly large and easy to get to. The Phelps Trail leads you on a gradual creek-side ascent to the Johns Brook Lodge. The Three Brothers Trail leads you up the mountains to a handful of peaks with sweeping view of the Adirondacks.

The Gulf Brook Trail winds steadily through the forested foothills of the mountains at a gradual incline until you hit the trail junction. This is also a great trail for snowshoeing and winter hiking. From the parking lot you can also access the trail to Big Crow and Little Crow Mountain.

August 11, 2023, Mckenzie Pond

For rock climbers and boulders; Some say Mackenzie Lake is the best bouldering in the Adirondacks! For hikers and climbers Mackenzie Pond is far from major cities so you will most likely miss the big crowds. When the pullouts are full of vehicles, the forest can feel empty still because of it's large and spread out nature.
