La Berra summit

Highlight • Summit

The shortest ascent is via the La Berra cable car from La Roche. From the mountain station it is less than 90 meters in altitude to the summit with the pyramid, which is one of Switzerland's triangulation points (fixed points for measuring Switzerland). These 80 or so pyramids were built between 1884 and 1970. About 60 of them still exist today. They are also shown on the 25, 50 and 100,000 scale maps, with a triangle and a dot in the middle.

The Berra is also easily accessible from the Grau car park (accessible only in summer from Le Mouret) or from the Plasselbschlund. If you like it a little further, you can hike to the summit from the Schwarzsee via a high-altitude hike or from the charterhouse (monastery) of La Valsainte (municipality of Val-de-Charmey). The summit of La Berra can therefore be reached from completely different directions.

Le Moléson Summit

Highlight • Summit

We took the funicular and cable car to the top, and you are greater with an amazing view. It is an easy climb to the top of Le Moleson, and well worth the detour. The first part of the hike down is steep, with some loose rubble,. The route does get easier and then you are treated to lovely fresh smells whilst walking through the trees and the flowers are colourful.

Northern Ascent to Mittelberg Pass / Abländschen

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

This small pass is wonderful as an alternative route if you want to avoid the many motorcyclists over the Jaunpass. The road is paved throughout and the small valley is very scenic. The route is also physically demanding because on the way from Jaun to the pass at 10.7 km, you have to overcome about 600 meters of altitude. The first 2/3 of the route is on a moderate 3-5% gradient. Only in the last third will it become significantly more demanding with up to 12%. The beautiful landscape compensates enough for the exertion. When you look around you shouldn't overlook the "cow-stopper" on the asphalt and run over it carefully.

Lower Euschels Alpine Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The „Ùndara Nüschùs“ also offers a Buvette and is located at the Euschels Pass towards Jaun. Euschels is pronounced „Nüschùs“ in the region.

Seeweidbach Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The waterfall is located about 200 meters behind the witch's house and the fire pit in the forest and can be reached with a short detour from the lake tour in about 10 minutes. The amount of water falling varies enormously, but of course the waterfall is most impressive after a heavy rainy day.

September 21, 2026, Northern Ascent to Mittelberg Pass / Abländschen

A pass through the forest, little car traffic, but steep. The descent requires caution here and there, with bad asphalt, cattle grids, and water gullies.

Targi
August 29, 2026, La Berra Summit

La Berra, at 1,719 m, is one of the most beautiful vantage points in the Fribourg Pre-Alps. From the summit, the view extends over the Lake of Gruyère, the surrounding Jura heights, and on clear days, far into the Bernese and Vaud Alps. Several hiking trails lead up to it. A circular hike across the wide alpine pastures is particularly charming.
