Created by the Association of Friends of Pilica and Nadpilicz and local government authorities in 1999. Its purpose is to conduct historical and ecological education and to preserve mementos from the past. On April 19, 2005, it began operating as a local government cultural institution subordinate directly to the City Office in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. In 2015, the institution was honored with the Pro Publico Bono Medal of Sabina Nowicka. According to a modern inscription plate, the temple was built in 1082, funded by Władysław Herman. The temple is mentioned by Jan Długosz, who gives the year 1086 as the date of foundation. At the same time as the church, a Benedictine monastery was built on the same mountain, which was destroyed in 1241 during the Tatar invasion. It bears features typical of defensive architecture. After the construction of the church of St. Michael in 1520, the older temple lost its significance and began to decline. The first attempt to renovate the church was made in 1790, when the miraculous painting of Our Lady of Sorrows was brought there from the chapel in Giełzów. via Wikipedia

The Pilica River Open-Air Museum in Tomaszów Mazowiecki is a unique place combining history, ecology and military. It was established in 1999, and its main attraction is the historic water mill from Kuźnica Żerechowska. In the open-air museum you can also see a wooden tsarist hermitage from Spała, models of mills and bridges and the largest collection of millstones in Poland. An important element of the exhibition is the military section, which contains a unique Sd.Kfz.8 artillery tractor, excavated from Pilica and restored.

An interesting open-air museum. There is a water mill with equipment, 30 millstones, military items (Pilica war trophies), and even a building that used to be the Tsar's toilet! A bit of a mix of everything, but interesting!
