The first written mentions of the Baths of Hercules come from the year 153 AD, i.e. from Roman times. Successively under Hungarian, Ottoman and then Austro-Hungarian rule, the Hercules Baths experienced unprecedented development in the 19th century when, in addition to its primary purpose as a medical treatment center, it also became a cultural and leisure facility. The settlement is visited by major figures of the time, including Emperor Franz Josef, who described the Hercules Baths as “the most beautiful health resort on the continent” while his wife, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sissi, owned an estate in the city, Vila Elisabeta . The existence of the Herculane Baths Resort for over two millennia has been favored by the miraculous effectiveness of its thermal springs and also by the picturesque location of the resort in a valley of unique beauty sheltered by mountains. https://herculaneproject.ro/en/about-

The last guests have been gone for a while. Apart from the entrance area, it's still very neat.

Even if they still look very fresh, they have definitely been there for a long time. A different kind of lost place.

If I interpret the half-dilapidated sign correctly, this was the seat of the Hercules Baths Board of Directors.
