The Na Rozcestí Cottage is one of the legendary Krkonoše huts. It is truly located at the crossroads of paths on the main ridge of the Krkonoše Mountains. From the hut you can walk to Sněžka, Pec, Špindel or Strážná (Vrchlabi). The Na Rozcestí Cottage, at an altitude of 1349 m. above sea level, has been providing a pleasant refuge for hikers, cyclists, cross-country skiers and ski mountaineers who need to gain strength for their next journey through the Krkonoše National Park or to hide from bad weather since the beginning of the 20th century. The view of Sněžka directly from the buffet or from sitting outside at a table or in an armchair is unique. In adverse weather, on the other hand, the burning fireplace with a drying rack above it will delight you most of the year. We have tools and a bike repair stand for cyclists, waxes for cross-country skiers, popular tourist stamps for tourists, and lots of delicious treats for everyone.

When you look at the Elbe Dam, it's hard to believe that it overflowed in 1997: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krausebauden-Talsperre And chatGPT adds the following: The brick, round structure on the dam wall of the reservoir in Špindlerův Mlýn (Spindlermühle) most likely serves as an intake structure or intake tower for the reservoir (dam). Such structures fulfill several important functions: 1. Water intake: Water can be extracted from the reservoir in a controlled manner via the tower – e.g., for power generation (hydroelectric power plant), drinking water supply, or to regulate the water level. 2. Flood protection: In the event of a strong inflow, the structure can also serve as part of the overflow system to release water in a controlled manner. 3. Access and maintenance: There is usually access to the internal technical equipment, for example, for maintenance or controlling the inflows and outflows. The round, brick design is typical of older dams—both functionally and architecturally. In Spindleruv Mlyn, the entire structure is also a listed monument, which explains why it is so massive and aesthetically striking.

The highlight, in addition to the magnificent panoramic view, is also the cuisine of this hut. We ate a huge blueberry dumpling - filled with wild blueberries - where else can you get that? Great reward after the climb 😉
