I live in Kempten and I crossed the Illerradweg off my list a long time ago; it's just boring and leads through the forest most of the time. What difference does it make that the Iller flows there? None. The paths on both sides of the canal and the Iller can be a bit confusing. The Illerradweg only becomes beautiful towards the south from Ferthofen and Kardorf onwards, thanks to the hilly roads.

The cycle path to the northern Egelsee will certainly be closed until 2027 due to construction work in the Iller. Heavy trucks drive there during the day, so stick to the ban or ride after work.

My brother from Memmingen and I have crossed the bridge off our list. The 2-step staircase is quite a workout with a 30 kg e-bike and/or panniers. The bridge path is rather narrow, and with mirrors and panniers, it can get tight when there is oncoming traffic. So, pray that no one is coming.

The suspension bridge and the approximately 20-meter-high observation tower invite visitors to explore. From the tower, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the weir and the idyllic floodplains of the Iller River. A pebble beach is also located nearby, right on the riverbank, perfect for dipping your feet in the cool water.

The blue suspension bridge spans the river near Rotkreuz and offers an exciting crossing with a gentle sway – a popular photo spot and stop for hikers. Directly next to it is a freely accessible observation tower, from which you can enjoy magnificent views of the Iller and the surrounding landscape. Both locations are easily integrated into a circular hike and offer a beautiful combination of nature experience and views.
