The Marina is a great place to run. It is really flat and you can run past all the boats along the paths. The beach is close by and there are cafes and pubs that you can start or finish it. There's also public toilets there and there is a nice 5k loop or more

A lovely cafe and bar on the sea front. They do lovely coffee and the food is great too. Great place to stop when you’re going for a walk on the beach! Dogs are allowed and there’s indoor and outdoor seating

Swansea Marina, is the place "where the city meets the sea", located behind the Swansea barrage at the mouth of the River Tawe.

Great cooked breakfast, right by the cycle way. Nearby bike racks visible from outdoor seating. Saw bikes inside seating area too in case you don't have a lock.

Yes, dogs are generally welcome but must be kept on a short lead at all times. This is to protect the sensitive wetland habitats, ground-nesting birds, and other wildlife. Please be a responsible owner and clean up after your dog.
Yes, the reserve is ideal for circular walks. The Pant y Sais reserve features a short, accessible circular boardwalk trail (0.4 miles / 0.6 km). At Crymlyn Bog, you can take the 1-mile (1.6 km) 'Bog and Balloons Walk'. For a longer outing, you could try the Trafalgar Bridge – Sail Bridge loop from Port Tennant, which explores the nearby waterfront.
There are separate access points for each part of the reserve. For Pant y Sais, parking is available at the end of a small lane off the A483, near the Tennant Canal. For Crymlyn Bog, access and parking are typically found near the Crymlyn Visitor Centre on Dinam Road in Bon-y-maen.
Absolutely. The trails within the reserve are mostly flat and well-suited for families. The 'Pant y Sais Walk' is a very short and easy boardwalk loop. For a slightly longer but still easy walk, the Fendrod Lake loop from Portmead is a great option nearby, offering a pleasant stroll around the lake.
While you can spot birds year-round, early summer is particularly rewarding. This is when you're most likely to hear the songs of migratory reed, sedge, and Cetti's warblers in the extensive reedbeds. Keep an eye out for water rails, and you might even be lucky enough to spot a marsh harrier.
The Pant y Sais section of the reserve is specifically designed for accessibility. It features a 0.4-mile (0.6 km) circular boardwalk trail that is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs, complete with benches for resting. The trails at Crymlyn Bog consist of boardwalks and grassy tracks which may be less suitable depending on recent weather.
The wetlands are teeming with life. In the summer, look for dragonflies and damselflies hovering over the water. The reserve is also a botanical treasure, home to rare plants like the majestic royal fern and beautiful yellow iris. It's also one of the few UK habitats for the fen raft spider, Britain's largest spider.
Pant y Sais offers a single, very accessible, short circular boardwalk. Crymlyn Bog has a slightly larger network of trails, including the 'Bog Walk' and 'Bog and Balloons Walk', which combine boardwalks with level grassy tracks, offering a bit more distance and a glimpse into the area's WWII history.
Yes, the reserve is accessible via public transport. Several bus routes from Swansea city centre run along the A483, stopping near the entrance to Pant y Sais. It's always best to check local bus schedules for the most current information before you travel.
There are nearly 200 hiking routes to explore in and around the Crymlyn Bog and Pant y Sais area on komoot. These range from very easy, short boardwalks within the reserve to longer, moderate hikes that connect to the surrounding landscape, like the nearby waterfront and canal towpaths.
The area is highly regarded by the komoot community, with an average rating of 4.6 stars from over 260 reviews. Hikers often praise the unique wetland scenery, the well-maintained boardwalks that allow for an immersive experience, and the peaceful escape so close to the city.
Yes, for those seeking a longer excursion, the towpath of the Tennant Canal runs alongside Pant y Sais, offering extended walking opportunities towards either Swansea or Neath. Additionally, the Wales Coast Path passes the edge of the reserve, providing a connection to a much larger network of trails. You can find more information on the official Wales Coast Path website.
