The Baltic Sea resort of Binz is the seaside resort on Rügen par excellence. It is known for its sophisticated villas and resort architecture. The view from above over the Himmelsleiter (Stairway to Heaven) and the pier itself is particularly impressive. A charming detail that gives hikers the feeling of having traveled to another era for a short time. And although the high bank hiking trail has its charms in every season, it takes on a new look with every change in the weather. In spring, when the first flowers sprout and the forest comes to life. On July 28, 1912, a tragedy happened on the pier in Binz. More than 1,000 people gathered on the 560-metre-long pier in anticipation of the steamer Prince Wilhelm. The bridge could not bear such a weight and the last span of it collapsed. More than 100 people fell into the sea. 16 people, including two children, could not be saved. Soldier Richard Römer, who saved 12 people from this disaster, is considered the "Father of the DLRG"
