The peculiarity of concrete bunkers is that they were partly built on top of the dune, but could not escape the constant movement of the sand. Due to the dune's advance inland, some of these bunkers are now located on the beach or in the water in the northern and southern areas of the dune. Some of them are even at a depth of up to 25 meters! These bunkers, strangely called blockhouses by the French, are now decorated with all kinds of graffiti and are waiting to sink into the ocean. You can often see anglers looking for a comfortable spot near them, as the concrete blocks have become an artificial reef for a variety of marine animals. In 2010, a bunker was discovered at the lighthouse on the opposite peninsula of Cap Ferret, which was subsequently restored and preserved.
