Free swimming in this public lake that is also supervised by the volunteer lifeguards. Very busy in good weather.

One of my favorite roads. Great view over the fields to the west. Especially around sunset there are magical golden moments to be found here.

Berkendonk is a recreational lake (well equipped and since 1994) used directly to the east of the Rijpelberg district in Helmond. The lake originated in the late 1980s from sand extraction in connection with construction projects in the area. Berkendonk has reached its full size in 2012 with a water surface of approximately 45 ha. The municipality is busy finishing the nature reserve on the north side of the lake. The recreational lake is a crowded bathing beach in the summer for residents of both Deurne and Helmond, with (on both the northern and southern sides) a gently sloping swimming area, trimmed with drift lines and grassy lawns. In addition, there is a snack bar (open in case of large crowds), a parking space, a separate bicycle shed and a fenced area for walking dogs. On the southeast side there is a slope for sailing boats and wind surfers where a surf club, sailing club and the rescue brigade are stationed. A nudist beach has been set up in a remote corner in the northeast. The lake has been closed several times due to (possible) occurrence of blue-green algae.
