The Achelse Kluis monastery is widely known for its great beer garden with its own brewery and a great selection. At the entrance, there is also an impressive depiction of the death strip from World War I. An electric fence that stretched from Vaals to the North Sea and was put under high voltage. The German army command wanted to prevent spies, deserters, and smugglers with this.

In Sterksel, the ox stands on a pedestal in front of the church. In 1988, this ox was restored. Its weathered ears were touched up. Where the body showed signs of wear, it was plastered and completely repainted. In 1968, the statue was made at the initiative of the local carnival association and displayed on the small lawn in front of the church. The pastor had no objection, provided the ox was placed as far away from the church as possible. Actually, that is a pity. For the ox has, after all, secured a permanent place with its humble companion, the donkey, around the manger in the nativity scene.

On a beautiful summer day, this lovely, winding, narrow path can get very busy with cyclists. So, either get going early, or if you're planning on cycling, be considerate of others and go slowly!
