Visible from afar, it has stood immovably in its place on Abdenastraße for over 100 years: the Emden water tower. Its gleaming white, the beautiful Art Nouveau façade and its fine elegance make it the most popular landmark in the seaport city.

Visible from afar, it has stood immovably in its spot on Abdenstraße for over 100 years: the Emden Water Tower. Its radiant white, beautiful Art Nouveau façade, and refined elegance make it a symbol of the seaport city. But the Emden Water Tower is much more than just pretty to look at. Built in 1911/12, it still contributes to Emden's reliable water supply today. It ensures the correct pressure in the city's pipeline network and performs an important storage function. In the water basin at its head, it stores enough pure drinking water to supply all Emden households with water for about an hour and a half: 1,000 cubic meters. Thanks to the sophisticated insulation layer in the wall, the water in the tank stays pleasantly cool even in summer. It measures 11 degrees Celsius when it leaves Tergast, and this temperature remains almost constant in the tower.

The Emden Art Gallery is a museum for modern and contemporary art and was founded by Henri Nannen in 1986. The collection includes important works of Expressionism, New Objectivity, Informel, CoBrA and Glasnost. Since the museum can only show a small part of the works in the collection, it is always worth visiting the museum. Henri Nannen was a German publisher and publicist. He was the founder, long-time publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine Stern. Nannen also became known through the scandal surrounding the Hitler diaries forged by Konrad Kujau, for whose publication in 1983 he took responsibility.
