Marienburg Castle was built from 1858 for Queen Marie of Hanover and is one of the most impressive structures in the region. Until 2020, it was privately owned, then a transition to the current Marienburg Castle Foundation was pushed forward. Coupled with this was the urgently needed renovation of the castle after 160 years. The castle is being extensively renovated for 27 million euros, which is why it is currently not accessible to the public. If the construction work allows, individual parts will be opened. The renovation measures are expected to last until 2031. Impressions of the castle and news can be found here: https://www.stiftung-schloss-marienburg.de/

Here you can take your time to photograph some birds. There are many. With a little patience you can do it. Unfortunately someone tried to start a fire inside. The tower is always open and there are some signs nearby showing the direction to the observation tower.

The Marienburg is located on the eastern slope of the Schulenburger Berg mountain, overlooking the Leine river. It is a beautiful castle in a great location. Once built as a gift for a queen, you can visit and tour it today. A café and a restaurant invite you to enjoy the hospitality. The paths to the castle are easily passable in all weather conditions. And if the sun hides when you are here: Enjoy the unique atmosphere when the walls show themselves in a rain-freshened glow.

The Hofcafe has recently been closed and there is only one delicious ice cream stand around the corner where there are always changing types of ice cream ...

In the domain there was a farm for a long time. The popular MUKU ice cream was made here until 1992. On Sunday mornings, you could buy cheap leftover ice ("break ice") that fell off during production. But you had to bring a suitable container with you.
