Erlangen is a beautiful, cosmopolitan city shaped by the FAU university and Siemens. The Franconian Switzerland is just a stone's throw away from here. In the context of Siemens, the small village of Pretzfeld should be mentioned here. After WW2, Pretzfeld was internationally known for decades for semiconductor innovations in the field of power diodes and thyristors. The company Semikron in Nuremberg is a spin-off from this area. Electrical engineers will be familiar with the name Schottky, known for the Schottky diode that bears his name. He worked there and contributed significantly to the outstanding expertise. Scientists like Spenke, Dannhäuser, Benda etc. should also be mentioned in this context. The only or main competitor at the time was Westinghouse in the USA. Locals are trying to keep the memory of this time alive - for example, the diffusion furnaces for semiconductors were located in the stable of the castle, which still exists today.

The waterwheels are a beautiful sight. There's also a club that regularly repairs them – it's wonderful. Such a great tradition simply must be preserved.

"Forest path" is misleading; it's a completely normal country road. But it's quiet, and beautiful, no question.
