This unique sundial is an analemmatic sundial, also known as a horizontal sundial, skillfully blending the craftsmanship of metalwork and stonework. Its ingenious design is the creation of Ian Naylor, an educator affiliated with Stafford College. To use the sundial will require a person to stand on the metal plate on the appropriate month and if the sun is shining then the shadow from the person will fall on or near the stones and tell the time

The Shrewsbury and Newport Canals were two different waterways, opened in the late 18th and mid-19th centuries, which both became part of the Shropshire Union in the 1840s. After a railway was opened, which ran parallel to the canal, trade began to decline and the canal was closed in stages during the 20th century. Today it is a peaceful place for recreation, both on and alongside the water.

Arguably one of the most picturesque roads in Staffordshire, it cuts through Cannock Chase, and it is the perfect place to start a dog walk, or jump onto the Chase fireroads and trails on a gravel or mountain bike. There are often dozens of deer grazing alongside the road, so have your camera ready! There are several free car parks along the road. 🦌
