The castle dates back to a medieval castle. After destruction in the War of the Palatinate Succession, the ruined complex was demolished except for the old keep. The current buildings, used for administrative purposes, date from the 18th century. The main building of the complex was also rebuilt in the course of the 18th century. It served as the seat of the Wiesloch district office from 1810 to 1938 and is now used as a police station.

The remains of the old Wiesloch royal castle rise behind a wrought iron gate of today's police station: the defensive tower from the 14th century (today the bell tower of St. Laurentius) and the remains of the palace, the former accommodation of the rulers, are striking. The castle itself had a roughly square floor plan. Towards the city it was secured by walls and a kennel, and on the west and north sides by a deep ditch. The entrance from the city was on the sloping southeast corner. This was secured by the tower already mentioned. There was another building on the west side, facing Bergstrasse. This probably served as accommodation for the servants and housed a large wine press in the cellar. During the French invasions in 1689, a large part of the castle was destroyed.
