The name "Weeping Rock" comes from the mothers of these girls, who came to this place every day for a long time to mourn their daughters.

According to history, girls preferred to throw themselves off a high cliff rather than fall into the hands of Ottoman invaders and become slaves. It was a dramatic act of choosing death over the loss of freedom and honor. The inscription on the memorial plaque reads: "From this rock (the Weeping Rock) ninety girls from Kruja bravely threw themselves down, so as not to fall alive into the hands of the Turks... They remained forever free, pure, and indomitable Albanian women. Their glory elevates to the heights the daughters and sons of our homeland, who remember them with pride."

The rock is located about 3 kilometers east of the center of Krujë, along the Albanian national road leading towards the Qafshtama pass. The monument commemorates the tragic death of 90 young girls from Krujë, which took place on June 16, 1478, just after the city was conquered by the Ottoman Empire after a long siege.
