Hohenhain Tunnel The Hohenhain Tunnel on the former railway line between Freudenberg and Hohenhain. The tunnel was built from 1906 to the end of 1907. At 396 meters, it was the longest railway tunnel in what was then the Prussian province of Westphalia. The railway had been running from Olpe to Rothemühle since 1880, and eight years later, with the construction of the section from Freudenberg via Hohenhain to Rothemühle, the connection from Kirchen to Freudenberg was completed. In 1983, railway operations were stopped at the start of the summer timetable and the tracks were dismantled in March/April 1988. In 1998, the local history association fought to ensure that the tunnel was not walled up. In 2004, RWE brought light into the tunnel and in 2005 the tunnel was added to the Freudenberg city monument list.

A nice place for excursions, always stopping here on the way to Panzerstrasse (Ermerzhausen), always friendly, there is always a cool wheat beer after the ascent.

The Ottoturm is an almost 19-meter-high observation tower on the Kahlenberg. From here, you have a beautiful panoramic view of parts of the Siegerland region, especially when the weather is good; on particularly clear days you can even see the Siebengebirge. The steel staircase up to the tower is a highlight in itself, especially if you are afraid of heights. But the climb is worth it!

The Druidenstein is located on the first stage of the Druidensteig and the penultimate stage of the Natursteig Sieg long-distance hiking trail. The bizarre basalt cone is around 20 meters high and can be seen from afar. A very impressive place for a long break and if you have nothing left in your backpack, you can refill it at the "kiosk".

From the Pfannenberg tower (518.69m above sea level) you have a great view towards Siegerland! It's worth a visit. The forecourt is also nice for a rest at the highest point of the city of Siegen :) The surrounding trees are now very high, so the view is a little restricted. However, towards the Westerwald, the view is still absolutely great!

Mudersbach is rich in natural beauty. You can visit the striking Druid's Stone, a 20-meter-high basalt cone on the Druidensteig hiking trail. Another impressive natural monument is the Hohe Ley, a prominent rock formation with pillow-shaped bulges, protected since 1986. For a unique experience, explore the Erzquellstollen, an ore spring tunnel whose biologically sterile water is used for brewing. During warmer months, the Naturfreibad Schinderweiher (Schinder Pond) offers a natural swimming area.

Beyond natural wonders, Mudersbach offers historical insights. The Hohenhainer Tunnel, once the longest railway tunnel in Prussian Westphalia, is a significant piece of industrial heritage. You can also visit the Mariengrotte, a grotto built into the rocks in 1924, accessible via the Mudersbach cemetery. For a deeper dive into mining history, explore the Schieferstollen "Wilhelmslust" (Slate Mine "Wilhelmslust") between Mudersbach and Brachbach, or the nearby Mining Museum in Brachbach.
Absolutely. The region has a rich mining heritage. The Pfannenbergturm Observation Tower itself was built from a disused winding tower of the Pfannenberger unity mine. You can take tours of the Schieferstollen "Wilhelmslust" (Slate Mine "Wilhelmslust") to experience the conditions miners faced. The Erzquellstollen, while a natural feature, is also linked to the region's industrial use of natural resources. Additionally, the Mining Museum in Brachbach provides comprehensive insights into this history.
While Mudersbach itself doesn't host a castle, several historic castles are located in the wider area. These include Wildenburg (dating from 1230), Burg Freusburg (built in 1247), and Castle Friedewald. Junkernthal Castle, a listed building with a large villa and baroque garden pavilion, is also nearby, though it is privately owned and viewable from the outside.
