Saint Ilija Summit

Highlight • Summit

Sv. Ilija, the highest point on Pelješac (961 m), is definitely worth a visit. The views are great and the hike (by the easiest, "Nakovana" approach) can be done by moderately fit persons. Start on the nice, gravel/dirt fire-road (off Road 6215), and don't believe the stated 2h 30min hiking time to Ilija (unless you are a trail-runner). After ~4 km the fire road ends, and a narrow, rocky path and hiking proper start. The gradient increases notably, but it doesn't last long and most of the remaining trail is much gentler. Even though not technically difficult, don't take this trip too lightly! Summer heat can be devastating and one needs to be prepared for that. Also, check the weather forecast, as the last thing you want is hiking into a thunderstorm when arriving at the summit. Expect to hike around 3,5 hours up, if you are stopping and resting and doing it for pleasure, and not for training. If you want to descend directly towards Orebič - just DON'T! It's steep and exposed.

It was only in 2018 that this adventurous route (approximately 13 km long) between Lovište and Duba Pelješka was "carved" into the mountains on the deserted northern coast of Pelješac.

This has created a fantastic panoramic trail, easily accessible by mountain bike: You can see the opposite island of Hvar and the mainland coast almost the entire way.

Note: This new route is not shown on current maps or Google Maps (as of early October 2019). However, it's worth taking a look at Google's current satellite view... the route is already clearly visible there.

From the pass of the Pelješacs ridge leads from here a bad (partially rinsed) path into the valley to Orebić. Hardly accessible, let alone passable - many trees are across. Very disappointing that the municipality Orebić after the forest fire of 2018 here (after more than a year) does not even clean up and makes the way again reasonably ... 😢

From Doja Vrucica a beautiful, varied path leads over about 7 km and 180 meters to the pass. On the mountain, mostly fine gravel and super good to drive. At the pass you have a magnificent view of the south of Dalmatia. Unfortunately, then comes over several hundred meters down the valley, in the direction of Orebic, rather the horror!

Duba Pelješka

Highlight • Settlement

In the small secluded village, north of the Pelješac ridge and less than 3 km from Sveti Ilija (961 m), time seems to have stopped, not only in the harbor. All around, there are several dream beaches nearby!

Here, about 5 km east of Duba, is located in a bay with offshore island one of the most beautiful beaches in Dalmatia with crazy water colors comparable to those in the Caribbean or on the Maldives!

View of Jezero Beach

Highlight • Beach

Idyllic beach with a small lake and stream behind. So far only accessible by boat and not by land. Possibly. But now you come down from the new way (with a little bit of tirelessness)?

Beautiful gravel road along the cliffs from Loviṣ̌te to Duba Pelješka. You cycle the entire way along the cliffs and have a great view of the sea and the mainland. This route should only be ridden on a mountain bike. Not suitable for gravel bikes. It is very rocky and bumpy over the entire 13km length. Here you are one with nature, far away from civilization. Be sure to have an emergency puncture kit (tire repair kit) with you. You don't want to have a flat tire in the middle of things here. Pushing the path on your bike will be very tiring and long.
