Guslica Peak

Highlight • Summit

Guslica was home to a Yugoslav military base until 1991. There's a whole web of tunnels under the ground but they are no longer accessible. On the peak behind the Croatian air control building there are a few benches and tables for a mid hike rest. The views from the summit are fantastic in all directions, especially towards the peaks Snježnik, Jelenc and Veliki Risnjak. To the south west you can see the peaks of Fratar, Obruč, Učka and almost complete Kvarner Gulf.

At the ascent from Frbežar to the top of Rudnik we have a view from the ski resort towards the settlements near Tršće. Gorski kotar in full glory.

Unstaffed refuge – Paravičeva miza

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Small very basic and very isolated refuge next to a closed chalet. An upstairs sleeping platform was infested with wasp nests as we passed. But there are picnic tables, a water well and plenty of wood.

Unfortunately, the Snježnik mountain lodge, one of the most beautiful in Croatia, is damaged and neglected and is no longer in use. All the same, the top is beautiful and offers one of the most beautiful views in Gorski kotar.
