Dobczyce Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle is closed on Mondays.
The opening hours vary depending on the season. Current opening hours and prices:

The former royal castle is located on a rocky hill by the Raba River reservoir. There was a wooden castle here as early as the time of the first Piasts. A Gothic castle was built under the rule of Kazimierz Wielki. The sons of Kazimierz Jagiellończyk stayed in the castle together with their tutor, Jan Długosz. The Niepołomice Museum exhibits an important painting depicting Jan Długosz with one of the king's sons. In the 16th century, under the rule of the Lubomirskis, the castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance residence. This residence was destroyed by the Swedes and Transylvanian troops.
The castle was secured and partially rebuilt thanks to the efforts of PTTK (Polish Society for Tourism and Local Lore) members, especially the tireless Władysław Kowalski.

This peak is included in the Crown of Polish Mountains - the highest peak of the Beskid Makowski. There is an astronomical observatory on the peak - open at certain hours, but not always. Lots of places to sit and shelters.

The peak is forested, so you won't see much from it - but you have another peak of the Crown counted.

It's best to go from the market square along the ulica Świętego Jana, sometimes quite steep :). The castle ruins have been renovated, admission is free

According to written sources, the castle in Lanckorona, also known as Lanckorona Castle, was built by Casimir the Great in the mid-14th century; it guarded the border between the Kraków region and the Duchy of Oświęcim, whose ruler John I Scholasticus paid homage to the Czech king John of Luxembourg in 1327. At that time, the border ran at the foot of Lanckorona Mountain, west of the hill. https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamek_w_Lanckorona

March 25, 2025, Dobczyce Castle

The castle in Dobczyce is a picturesque fortress located on a rocky hill above Lake Dobczyce, with a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Inside there is a museum with historical exhibits and an armoury, and a walk along the walls allows you to feel the atmosphere of bygone ages. Access by road bike is possible, although the last ascent is steep and it is better to overcome it carefully. It is worth combining a visit to the castle with a visit to the nearby open-air museum and a walk along the dam.

A beautiful shelter at an altitude of 730m above sea level in the Lubomir and Łysina Range of the Beskid Średni. Many trails intersect here, so as a base camp this place is great. Nice, modern rooms for overnight stays. There is a kitchen, but you have to bring your own food - they don't serve food here. More at https://kudlacze.pttk.pl/index.html
