Góra Śmierci Memorial, Pustków

Highlight • Monument

Death Mountain is the place where the SS Truppen Ubungs Platz training ground was located, in the area of which a labor camp was established. Initially, it was a camp for French prisoners, and then also for Soviet prisoners. Initially, people who died or were shot were buried in mass graves, but after the outbreak of typhus and dysentery, the victims were burned on the cremation pyre. On September 16, 1942, a camp for Polish prisoners was established. People died of hunger, cold, disease and exhaustion. After liberation, the Russians kept German prisoners in this area. The Paszczyna camp claimed over 15,000 victims in the years 1940-1945. On the site of the former camp, crematorium hearths, rooms for storing corpses, and the remains of the camp's victims have been preserved. The death chamber and the crematorium slab were renovated and a mass grave was made.

In honor of the murdered, the "Road of Suffering" leads to the Mountain of Death (...)

Stępina Railway Bunker

Highlight • Historical Site

Nearly 400 meters long, 12 meters high and with huge walls, the thickness of which in some places exceeds 3 meters. The railway shelter in Stępin cannot be overlooked, especially since there are other, smaller military buildings nearby.

A shelter for Hitler
On the border of the villages of Stępiny and Cieszyny (around Frysztak) there is an unusual object. It was there, in August 1941, that the leader of the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler, and the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini met. What they talked about remains shrouded in mystery to this day. It is only known that they were completely safe in the ground shelter tunnel.

The history of Death Mountain is inextricably linked with the occupation history of the Dębica region. In the years 1940–1944. It was in this place, on the top of "Królowa Góra" (later called "Mountain of Death"), that a cremation hearth was built in November 1941 to burn the bodies of murdered prisoners. https://www.ecpip.pl/historia/gora-smierci.html
