Amaliehaven is a small, geometrically designed park in the heart of Copenhagen, located directly between the royal palace of Amalienborg and the picturesque harbor edge. Opened in 1983, the green oasis was a gift from a private foundation and designed by Belgian landscape architect Jean Delogne. The design impresses with its exact symmetry, carefully trimmed hedges, and two levels that offer park visitors protection from wind and noise. Especially in spring, the park attracts locals and travelers alike with the bloom of numerous Japanese cherry trees. The visual centerpiece of the garden is a large, modern fountain, framed by striking bronze columns by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro. From there, an impressive sightline opens up across the water directly onto the opposite Copenhagen Opera House. As the park is freely accessible around the clock, it is ideal for a short, atmospheric break on the walk between the colorful harbor district of Nyhavn and the famous Little Mermaid.
