Construction began on June 29, 1909, with a solemn Mass in Chełm and the consecration of the construction site. The water tower at the ERG plastics plant (originally the "Lignoza" explosives factory) was built in 1926. Previously, the factory drew water from the nearby Mleczna River, but after the construction of a polluting paper mill, it became necessary to switch to deep wells. It is a 25-meter-high structure made of reinforced concrete. Atop the tower is a water tank with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters.
