This palace residence was built between 1621 and 1644 and was the largest palace in Europe at the time. (Versailles was built later.) This palace was built in the Italian style of a fortezza-type palazzo, meaning it was protected by a mighty pentagonal bulwark. This palace type is common in Poland, but here in Krzyżtopór, the bastion fortifications were not dismantled and leveled because this castle was destroyed by Russian troops in 1770. 90% of the walls and 10% of the vaults are still preserved. Therefore, reconstruction plans have existed for over 100 years, which have been repeatedly amended but never realized. Between 2010 and 2013, extensive security measures and new roofs were installed with co-financing from the European Union, and the entire area, including parking spaces, was upgraded for tourism. This project was obviously successful because there were thousands of visitors on the Sunday I was there.

The Holy Cross and Łysa Góra have been places of worship for centuries, first pagan, and from the 12th century Roman Catholic. It is worth stopping here, because it is a true monument and a place with a considerable history.

The Holy Cross is a place of extraordinary historical and spiritual significance. At the top of Łysa Góra is the Sanctuary of the Relics of the Holy Cross, one of the oldest and most important sanctuaries in Poland. In addition to religious values, the area around the Holy Cross offers beautiful landscapes of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. For cyclists, there are many routes of varying difficulty, leading through picturesque forests and hills. It is worth remembering to be properly prepared, as some of the climbs can be demanding.

The Jodłowa Forest is the heart of the Świętokrzyski National Park, encompassing vast forests dominated by ancient firs and beeches. It is one of the most valuable forest complexes in Poland, protected since the interwar period. The most famous trail running through the forest is the red trail to Łysa Góra, leading through picturesque, wild areas. Among the attractions, it is worth mentioning the gołoborza, or rocky rubble, and the rich fauna, including deer, wild boars and rare species of birds. It is a great place for hiking and cycling, especially in autumn, when the forests take on extraordinary colours. It is worth stocking up on good shoes, because the trails can be slippery, especially after rain.

Łysa Góra, the second highest mountain in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains (595 m above sea level), is a place full of history, legends and unique nature. On its summit is the famous gołoborze - a vast rock rubble created as a result of weathering quartzites, which gives this place a raw and mysterious appearance. It is also the area of the Świętokrzyski National Park, from where there are beautiful views of the surrounding hills.

Currently, there is a b1 sign on this footbridge (does not apply to two-wheelers or pedestrians) but boars still drive there in cars. You should set up a camera sometime, take some pictures and send them to the police :-) Besides, the police should install cameras there, they would have a harvest.
