Ląd Monastery

Highlight • Religious Site

Ląd Monastery was founded in 1175 by Duke Miezko and settled as the third daughter monastery of Altenberg in the Bergisches Land from the filiation of the Morimond Primary Abbey, according to recent research only in 1175 or 1186 (the alleged foundation in 1145 is said to be based on a forgery of the deed of foundation in the second half of the 13th century). It was a so-called "Cologne monastery" (see Wągrowiec - Wongrowitz Monastery, Obra Monastery). Until the middle of the 16th century, Ląd Monastery was only occupied by Cologne monks. They left the monastery in 1553, after which the “Polish” period began. In 1796 most of the land was confiscated by the Kingdom of Prussia. The monastery was closed in 1819. The monastery was used by Capuchins from 1850 to 1864, and since 1921 the Salesians of Don Bosco have used it. Source: Wikipedia

Bishops' Palace in Ciążeń

Highlight • Historical Site

It was built in the years 1758 - 1768 by the architect Józef Sacco for Bishop Teodor Czartoryski and completed in rococo style around 1810 on the initiative of Bishop Ignacy Raczyński. ... In 1818 the palace was privately owned by Colonel Wacław Gutakowski. ... The palace was taken over by the University of Poznan in 1969. Currently, the palace (ground floor) houses a branch of the University Library in Poznan, which houses the largest collection of Masonic prints in Poland (approx. 80,000 volumes), collected by the Nazis during the war and abandoned in Środa Śląska. On the two upper floors there is a creative workhouse of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan with hotel facilities. Source: wikipedia

Mosaic Stairs in Pyzdry

Highlight • Structure

The mosaic stairs in Pyzdry are an amazing example of… street art! The inconspicuous stairs, connecting the street next to the former monastery church with the boulevard on the Warta River, were decided in 2018 to be decorated with a beautiful mosaic depicting a fish, or more precisely an eel. In this simple way, a unique attraction for visitors to Pyzdry was created, but also the aesthetics of this part of the city was improved.

Church of Beheading of St. John the Baptist - in the gothic framework, transformed in baroque forms - is a single-nave building with a narrower chancel closed polygonal. In the nave and presbytery there are sail vaults with apparent domes, in the chapel there are barrel vaults with lunettes. The interior equipment is heterogeneous, e.g. Neo-Baroque altars from around 1910 (in the main one a crucifix and sculptures of Saints Peter and Paul from the second half of the 18th century), two late-Baroque confessionals from around 1790, a classicist pulpit from around 1800.
