The majestic ruins of Gýmeš Castle, once the ancestral home of the Forgáčov family, are still the dominant feature of Upper Požitavia. The walls, which have been rebuilt many times, document the eventful history of the castle grounds and are a fine example of the continuous architectural development of the castle from late Romanesque architecture to the Baroque. The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1253 in the deed of gift from King Bela IV, whereby Andrej Hunt-Poznan acquired the castle for his services. The Bohemian king was unable to take the castle in 1271 and 1273. Website: hradgymes.sk

A few kilometers north of Topoľčianky in the Tribeč Mountains in western Slovakia are the ruins of Hrušov Castle. It rises from the Skalka peak at a height of 488 m. This royal castle was built in the 13th century to protect the trade route through the Tribeč Mountains. In 1708 it devastated the emperor's armies and it has been in ruins ever since. However, its preserved walls create a romantic atmosphere and there is a wide panoramic view of the Tribeč and Pohronský Inovec mountains.

The late baroque architecture of the chapel is still recognizable above all through the segmentation of the walls with double pilasters and profile strips, which once carried the vault of the room. The ruin can be visited. However, due to the static situation, caution is advised. Stone and scree can be left at any time. https://www.gymes.sk
