Wysoka is the highest peak in the Pieniny Mountains (1050m), belonging to the Crown of Polish Mountains. The panorama from here of the Spiš Magura and of course the Tatras is extraordinary. There is a board showing which mountain on the horizon is which.

As you can see in the photo from July 1997, there was a border fence in this place, which made it impossible to cross the Polish-Slovak border. Tourists who came from Szczawnica along the Dunajec River were forced to turn back. This was the case until 1999. On the Slovak side, it was so much better that there are two roads leading here - from Leśnica and Czerwony Klasztor, so it was possible to return by a different route.
----------------------------

The Szczawnica-Lesnica border crossing was established on July 1, 1999, in the area of the border marker No. II/94, with the place of check-in on the Slovak side in the town of Lesnica for citizens of Poland and Slovakia and citizens of countries with which both countries had abolished the obligation to have visas. It was open at 9.00-21.00 in the summer (April-September) and 9.00-17.00 in the winter (October-March). The traffic of pedestrians, cyclists, skiers and people using wheelchairs was allowed. Border and customs clearance was carried out by the bodies of the Border Guard.

On December 21, 2007, under the Schengen Agreement, the border crossing was closed.

Witkula Peak

Highlight • Summit

Witkula (736 m) - a peak high in the Little Pieniny Mountains in their main ridge. It is located in this ridge, approx. 300 m south-east of Szafranówka, separated from it by a small and grassy pass. Witkula creates a narrow and rocky ridge covered with bushes (mainly hazel) and stunted trees. The Polish-Slovak border runs across this ridge [1]. The top of Witkula is rocky, but without any views, because it is covered with bushes. On the eastern side, the Witkula ridge descends to the pass called Danielka, from which there are views of Jarmuta and Szczawnica.

Leśnické Pass (720 m)

Highlight • Mountain Pass

We don’t want to disturb you enjoying the view, it is just to remind you to put some warmer clothes for the downhill. While cycling down in Haligovce, don’t miss to look right, at the beautiful Haligovské Rocks. Imagine once there was a tiny village halfway up - it was called Aksamitka. There is also a cave, the longest in Pieniny - the total of 335 m.

Obidza Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

It is true that in general, Przełęcz Obidza is mostly in the forest, which blocks the view to the north, but there is a place on its edge from where you can see the panorama of the Pieniny and Tatra Mountains to the south, from Polana Litawcowa.

EuroVelo 11 in Popradzki Park Krajobrazowy

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Already completed part of Eurovelo 11, on which you can then drive all the way to Stary Sącz. To do this, the two bridges must be completed (by the end of 2020). You then switch to the Slovak bank and can avoid the country road.

Tips from the Community

Mariusz Kucharczyk
December 29, 2025, Dunajec River Rafting in Pieniny National Park

One of the most overrated attractions in the region. The trip takes a long time (over two hours of sitting still), on cold days it's freezing, and on warm days there's no way to escape the heat. A raft is boring as a means of transportation – a simple walk or bike ride is definitely more satisfying, but the best way to get around this section is by inflatable kayak (single or double). To make matters worse, the raftsmen throw out such stale biscuits that after fifteen minutes, the prospect of spending another two hours in their company becomes a curse. But what can you say?
