Zelenica Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Zelenica mountain hut (1536 m) is a mountain outpost located on the Zelenica saddle between the Na Može border ridge in the north and the Begunjščica ridge in the south. The Zelenica area is known as a winter sports center. In addition to groomed ski trails, it also offers touring skiing from the surrounding peaks. The home is managed by PD Tržič. It burned down in December 1999, but was later renovated.

Koča na Dobrči

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The hut stands above the edge of the steep southern slope of Dobrča in a place called Kres, where bonfires were supposedly lit during the Turkish invasions. The first hut was built by four private individuals after World War I; in 1952 it was taken over by PD Tržič and named after the mountaineer from Tržič, Ladislav Kostanjevac (1906-1937), who was buried by an avalanche under Storžič. A fire completely burned down the hut on 16 September 1974. In 1975, they started building a new hut on the fire site, which was opened on June 10, 1978 and is now called Koča na Dobrči.

View:

From the hut there is an extraordinary view on all sides except to the north. Towards the east we see first Kriška gora and Storžič, and behind them the peaks of the Kamnik Alps; in the southeast rises the Posavje hills, in front of which is the extensive Ljubljana basin, behind which the Notranjska hills extend to Snežnik and Javorniki; in the south, at the foot of Dobrča, is the Podgora plateau between Tržič and Begunje with beautiful villages, and behind it the Gorenjska plain spreads from Šmarna gora to Jesenice with Kranj, Radovljica, Bled and other places; the Gorenjska plain is bordered by the Polhov Gradec hills, the Škofja Loka mountain range, Jelovica and Pokljuka; in a southerly direction we see Lubnik, Blegoš, Porezen and Ratitovec; in the west, behind Jelovica and Pokljuka, there is an extensive panorama of the Julian Alps with Triglav; the view to the north obscures the top of Dobrče; if we climb to the top, a beautiful view opens up to the Karavanke with Begunjščica and Stol, the valley towards Ljubelj and Košuta.

Tolsti Vrh

Highlight • Summit

Tolsti vrh or Zaloška gora, as it is called in places on the south side of the village Zalog at the foot, is the highest peak of Kriška gora, an elongated ridge between Tržiška Bistrica in the west, the Lomščica valley in the north and the Gorenjska plain between Trstenik and Križe in the south. Kriški gora is also called Kokovnica (in some documents Kukovnica) in the villages on the northern side of the mountain, after the words kok or kuk, which means a stone horn that rises from a grassy slope. The north side is wooded, in some places up to the summit ridge, which is quite rocky and notched by ravines. Even the southern slopes are mainly covered by forest, only the upper steep slopes are grassy. The grasslands are rich in mountain flora. Approximately in the middle of the southern slope is a large terrace with the village of Gozd, fields and meadows and a mountain shelter. From Tolsti vrh and the ridge of Kriška gora there is a very beautiful view of the Gorenjska plain with Kranj, Golnik, Radovljica and other places, the valley of Lomščica, Košuta, Julijce and other mountains, and the most beautiful is the view of the nearby Storžič.

Kriška Gora Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The hut stands on top of the sunny Mežnar meadow on the western part of the elongated ridge of Kriška gora. PD Križe started building it in 1950; in 1951 it was already open in an emergency. The completely renovated cottage was ceremoniously opened on June 28, 1953. In 1963, an extension with a dining room and a common bed was added. In 1975, a freight cable car was built from the village of Gozd. In 1981, the cottage was enlarged and renovated. As it became too small and no longer met the more modern requirements of visitors, PD Križe decided to increase and restore it. In 1991, the old hut was demolished and a new one was built, and the ground floor premises were completed.

Views:
From the terrace in front of the hut there is a beautiful view to the east, south and west, and from the nearby ridge above the hut also to the north. On the east side, in front of us are the grassy sunny slopes and ridge of Kriška gora, which ends with Tolsti vrh, Storžič rises behind it, and to the right of it we can see part of Krvavec; in the south there is a wide view of the Ljubljana Basin and the lower part of the Gorenjska plain with Kranj and the hills that surround them from the western part of the Posavje hills through the Crimea and Polhov Gradec hills to the Škofja Loka mountains and on the horizon to Snežnik, Javorniki and Trnovski gozd; in the west the forested Jelovica and Pokljuka rise, and behind us we can see Julijce with Triglav and in this direction also Lake Bled, and in front of it the upper part of the Gorenjska plain with Radovljica; the view to the west stops at nearby Dobrča and north of it at Stol and Begunjščica; in the north we see the Lom valley from Tržič to Storžič and the mighty Košuta massif with all its peaks from Veliki vrh to Košutnikov turn.

Šija Mountain Lodge (1528 m)

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Šija camping lodge is located on the Šija mountain and is at the height of 1528 m the highest lodge under the mighty Košuta ridge.

It is arranged in a former Yugoslav caravan, which the scouts of the Kriška gora family have transformed into a pleasant mountain shelter. The scouts use the lodge for their activity, and they have also opened it for all mountaineers, hikers in short, all those who want to spend part of their time in the Košuta mountain range. They offer 34 beds, in 4 rooms, an apartment with 6 beds and authentic home-made food, prepared a little after camping. Due to its location, the Šija mountain is less besieged than the neighboring Kofc and thus offers a completely authentic experience of the mountains.

The scout home can be a starting point for ascents to the surrounding peaks or just tours of the mountains below Košuta.

In half an hour, the snake trail takes you to the crossroads of the trail to Veliki Vrh and Kofce gora (along the Fronc ridge), where you can descend back to the mountains or conquer other peaks from Kladivo all the way to Košutnikov turn. You return across the mountains along the border path.

You can choose the path past the top of Šija through the meadows straight to Kladiva (the path is not marked).

Border paths lead you to the neighboring mountains; west to Kofc, east to Pungrat mountain, Tegoška mountain or even Dolga njiva mountain.

Malo Kladivo (2,036 m)

Highlight (Segment) • Summit

Malo Kladivo is an indistinct peak just before Veliki Kladivo. You could also call it the pre-peak of the Big Hammer. We climb it mainly because of the beautiful view of Velika Kladiva or because we want to avoid the crowds that are common in the higher neighbor. From Mali Kladivo, the views open up mainly to the western part of Košuta with Veliki vrh and Košutica, and further on to Vrtača and Begunjščica. Towards the south there is a view of the highest peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, especially Kočna, and to the east to the somewhat hidden Olševa and Peca in the background. The view of Austrian Carinthia is extraordinary. Malo Kladivo is located in the region of Gorenjska, Bovška and Koroška, narrower in the Karavanke subregion and even narrower in the Western Karavanke subregion. The top does not have a stamp and registration box.
