The Temenica is the largest sinkhole in Dolenjska. A good part of it flows through the dark karst underground, which is probably why this river got its name. It originates on the southern slopes of the Posavje Hills below the village of Javorje. In its upper course, it flows through impermeable rocks, but near the village of Dolenjska Ponikve it crosses over to permeable limestone, where it sinks in numerous gullies. The Temenica mysteriously flows into the Mirnopeška Valley at the Zijalo spring and flows lazily along it all the way to Goriška vas, where it disappears beneath the surface for the second time. Its third and last source is in Luknja pri Prečna.

The cycling route passes Otočec Castle, which has been declared a cultural monument and is the only water castle in Slovenia. It continues along the Krka River, all the way to the beginning of the municipality of Šmarješke Toplice. Here it passes through Dolenje Kronovo, where it connects to the state road.

In the idyllic village of Šentjurij in Dolenjska, the birthplace of the poet Tone Pavček (1928-2011), his permanent memorial collection is located in the Pavček House in the middle of the village. There, a collection of the poet's paintings, books, and some of his personal belongings are on display.
