A good beer garden, but it's a shame you can't charge here.

The reason for this wayside shrine is a tragic story: A girl was on her way to the Rockerstube (rocking room). On the way there, her fiancé tried to scare her. He jumped out of the forest toward her with a sack over his head. The young woman struck the figure with her spinning wheel, fatally wounding it. As it turned out, this was her fiancé. Rockerstube (rocking rooms) aren't just bars where metal music is played—in past centuries, they were also called "spinning rooms." These were meeting places for unmarried women during the winter months. They met to spin for their dowry and do other handicrafts. This served as a social gathering and also had economic reasons: Before the introduction of electric lighting, pine shavings, candles, oil lamps, and heating materials could be used more efficiently and thus saved through communal use.

There's also a very nice, new bike path along the road near Herrnsdorf. Unfortunately, I haven't been inside the church yet; time has been too tight :-)
