Wenger Moor Viewing Platform

Highlight • Viewpoint

From here you can go to the viewing platform. It's best to leave your bike standing. In the raised moor you will find many unusual plants that only grow in very humid areas, such as cotton grass and the “carnivorous” sundew. But please stay on the paths because the moor is very fragile and there are only a few of them left.

Wine Cellar Collegiatstift Mattsee

Highlight • Structure

Based on excavation finds, it is assumed that the founding church was a pre-Carolingian wooden building. After the Battle of Lechfeld in 955, the first stone successor building was probably built.[1] According to existing wall findings, this Ottonian hall church was replaced by a Romanesque basilica with two side aisles in the 12th century. This building, which was almost the size of today's church, fell victim to a fire in 1276.

It was immediately rebuilt in the early Gothic style with a transept, side aisles and a choir with a three-eighth end, which initially remained towerless. In 1365 a Lady Chapel was built in the corner of the transept. After 1600, a tower was added to the west facade. The Gothic building was decorated in Baroque style with stucco and frescoes around 1700 and at the beginning of the 18th century. Due to the dilapidation of the tower from the Mannerist period, the current 60 m high tower of the church, which is called the “Goliath of the Mattiggau”, was built in 1766 according to plans by Wolfgang Hagenauer.[2] The former Lady Chapel was converted into a weekday chapel in 1908 through arched openings to the south aisle (Wikipedia).

Gebertsham Branch Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The Gebertshamer chapel, dating from around 1500, represents one of the rare, completely preserved Gothic cultural monuments with the winged altarpiece by Gordian Guckh and the wall paintings. Additionally, the idyllic location with a magnificent view over the Mattsee invites a visit.

The chapel is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm during the summer. Outside these hours, the Stepasiuk family from the neighboring farm will gladly open it for you.

The collegiate church is worth a visit. The epitaphs behind the church are also worth a visit. The tree in the church square is a great place to rest, especially on warm days...with an ice cream from the bakery/café across the street. The walnut ice cream is incomparably good...but unfortunately, it's not always available.
