MAMUZ Castle Asparn/Zaya

Iron Cross Paasdorf

Highlight • Monument

The Iron Cross is part of the Paasdorf cultural landscape.
The cross was erected by metalworking and blacksmithing students from the Mistelbach trade school (led by Gerhard Rötzer). It is about 3 meters high and consists of small iron parts welded together. Some elements were reused, the original use of which can still be recognized. The cross is located at a point overlooking the town of Paasdorf and on the one hand represents the region's deep religious roots, but its design creates a connection to the modernity represented by the cultural landscape projects.

📷 March 31, 2018 - The church was first mentioned in documents in 1170 and over time has served as a place of worship for both Catholics and Protestants. The church tower houses a bell that is dated 1452. It is also noteworthy that there was once a town around the church. However, this place was most likely completely destroyed in a once-in-a-century storm or in the religious wars of the 16th century. But there is also a traditional “saga” that explains the disappearance of the town of Heiligenberg. 😊👍👍👍

The Iron Cross in Paasdorf is a true gem and an important part of our cultural landscape. It was erected by the metalworking and blacksmithing students of the Mistelbach Trade School under the direction of Gerhard Rötzer. At approximately 3 meters high, it catches the eye even from afar and is made of welded iron parts that are part of the "reuse" process. You can even still see where the parts were previously used – that makes it very special. The cross stands at a point where you have a magnificent view over the village of Paasdorf. It not only symbolizes the deep-rooted religiosity of our region, but also combines tradition with modernity. The design demonstrates that we live in the here and now without forgetting our roots. It is a place of reflection and tranquility, ideal for anyone passing by the cycle path and wanting to take a short break. Here you can sit down, enjoy the view, and get some fresh air. The Iron Cross is thus not only a work of art, but also an inviting place to experience the beauty of Paasdorf and its surroundings. A little rest and reflection – that's a great thing to do here.

The 800-year-old pilgrimage church of St. Lambert on the "Holy Mountain" is located on a wooded hill north of Hautzendorf and is considered a particularly mystical place of power. In the church tower there is a bell from 1452.
