We had the chance to hike the Monkey Fingers with Yasin, and it was absolutely fantastic! The scenery is breathtaking, with impressive rock formations and canyons that seem out of another world. Yasin, our guide, made the experience even more enjoyable with his knowledge and attentiveness. He guided us safely while sharing local stories and interesting anecdotes. Thank you to Yasin for this memorable adventure! We highly recommend this hike for anyone who wants to discover the wild beauty of the region with a passionate guide. A highlight of our trip! Monkey fingers is a great trail.. like many in Morocco may be best with a guide though! I had a fantastic guided tour of the monkey fingers with Omar, WhatsApp +212 687-139289 including tea with the nomads and some great photos and fun adventurous routes! .. plus a bonus trip to take a quick dip in waterfall and refresh myself post hike! 5 stars! Omar speaks fantastic English and French and was great company and a really informative host, and adapted the route to suit the walker! (I enjoy a bit of an adventure!) Would hugely recommend!

It's a dream with all the carvings and mosaics. Unfortunately, parts were badly damaged by the earthquake and are currently being restored.

Morocco offers diverse natural beauty, from the vast Sahara Desert with its iconic sand dunes like Erg Chebbi, to the rugged Atlas Mountains, a paradise for trekkers. You can also visit the dramatic Todra Gorge and Dades Gorges with their unique rock formations, or the stunning multi-tiered Ouzoud Falls. For a coastal experience, Legzira Beach Arch provides a remarkable natural arch formation.
Morocco is rich in history and culture. Explore the ancient medinas of imperial cities like Marrakesh, Medina, Fes, Meknes, and Rabat. Don't miss the majestic 11th-century mud-brick ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis showcase remarkably intact mosaic floors, and the magnificent Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims.
Yes, many attractions in Morocco are suitable for families. The bustling Marrakesh, Medina and its vibrant Jemaa el-Fnaa square offer sensory experiences. The beautiful Bahia Palace in Marrakech and the Ouzoud Falls are also popular with families. For a unique natural experience, Paradise Valley in the High Atlas features crystal-blue natural pools and water slides.
Morocco provides numerous opportunities for outdoor activities. You can find excellent cycling routes, including challenging rides through the Dades Gorge or scenic loops around the Painted Rocks near Tafraout. For hikers, there are routes to the Akchour Waterfall and God's Bridge, or easy walks like the Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakesh to Souk El Bahja loop. Explore more options on our Cycling in Morocco and Waterfall hikes in Morocco guides.
To experience the Sahara Desert, head to areas with iconic sand dunes such as Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga. Popular activities include camel treks, which often lead to overnight stays in desert camps under the stars. This offers a unique opportunity to witness the vastness and tranquility of the desert landscape.
The Atlas Mountains are ideal for trekking and exploring Berber villages. You can challenge yourself with a hike to the Summit of Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak, which offers incredible 360-degree panoramas. The Tizi-n'Tichka Pass provides spectacular mountain vistas, and the region is home to dramatic gorges like Todra and Dades, popular for hiking and climbing.
For a unique cultural immersion, visit the ancient medinas of Fes and Marrakech. Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a truly authentic ancient Moroccan experience with its labyrinthine alleyways and traditional crafts. Yes, Morocco's coastline offers several unique cities. Essaouira is known for its windswept beaches, historic medina, and working fishing port. Other coastal cities like Tangier, Casablanca, El Jadida, and Taghazout Bay also offer distinct experiences. Taghazout Bay is particularly popular for its chill beach vibes and surfing opportunities.
The best time to visit Morocco generally depends on the region you plan to explore. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer pleasant temperatures for visiting cities and coastal areas, avoiding the intense summer heat and colder winter nights. For trekking in the Atlas Mountains, late spring and early autumn are ideal, while the Sahara Desert is best visited in late autumn, winter, or early spring to avoid extreme temperatures.
Traditional Moroccan markets, known as souks, are an essential part of the Moroccan experience and can be found in most major cities. The most bustling and extensive souks are located within the medinas of Marrakech and Fes. Here, you can find everything from spices and textiles to handmade crafts and local delicacies. The Souk El Bahja in Marrakech is a worthwhile visit.
While popular spots are fantastic, Morocco has many hidden gems. Instead of just Marrakech, consider the quieter imperial city of Meknes with its vibrant medina and impressive gates. For a coastal experience beyond Essaouira, explore cities like El Jadida, a UNESCO site with a Portuguese cistern. The Drâa Valley offers a gorgeous oasis with kasbahs and palm groves, providing a serene alternative to more bustling areas.
